Established in 1987, SWECC is a not-for-profit community organisation that provides short-term respite for children in their own homes during an emergency or crisis where no other support networks are available to their family. SWECC’s target group includes families, specially low-income, with children up to and including 12 years of age.
SWECC’s flexible in-home childcare model allows families to remain intact during emergencies, reducing the risk of separation or breakdown. SWECC uses a child-focused approach to provide families with practical hands-on support allowing them to focus on resilience and recovery. Practical support includes general supervision, meal preparation, personal care, bathing, transport to and from day-care/school, positive role modelling, links to meaningful support services.
