Ambassador Program
Perinatal Mental Health
National statistics indicate that 1 in 5 mothers and 1 in 10 fathers will encounter perinatal mental illness. However, during and following the COVID-19 pandemic, data from Radiance reflects a notable rise in requests for support, aligning more closely with the national peak body PANDA’s research, which shows that 1 in 3 mothers and 1 in 7 fathers are experiencing perinatal mental health issues.
For parents grappling with perinatal mental illness, there is a heightened risk of acute and long-term psychological, social, and physiological consequences, impacting vulnerable family dynamics and diminishing quality of life. Tragically, suicide remains the leading cause of maternal death during the perinatal period in Australia.
